  • |Music Thursday – I’ve got a thing for Artsy Guys. |

“Without Music, life would be a mistake.”

    ~Friedrich Nietzsche

If you had a look at my blog, you will know I live and breathe music. Music is part of everything I do, so obviously I do have some favourites, some songs that let me celebrate the good days and help me through the bad days.

I’m no good with playing any instruments, and unfortunately my voice is not the best (even though I wish I was better), but I think I know my music. I listen to anything and everything. If  a song  excites my spirit, then I will listen to it even for few days or weeks continuously.

The only requirement I have for my music is to talk to me.. To be meaningful, to inspire me to be better, to dream, to hope, to cry and to scream. Songs should tell stories .. From the saddest of songs, to the craziest or most sensual dance tune on the dance floor. Music should inspire people to let go and loose themselves; to release themselves.

Music helps me unwind too, but most importantly – it helps me write. It helps me create.

I think each life moment should be accompanied by a song or several songs, or a sound.. Something to make it memorable. I also think that if you cannot find a song that you like, then you should take upon yourself and create it. Just like anything else in life, you want something – you go out there and reach for it.

And because this topic has been on my mind lately, I want to share with you boy-crushes in Music. Most of them are contemporary artists, but each one of them has something very special about their spirit. Their music speaks to me, but also the way they live their lives and the things they believe in inspire me.

And I think it’s safe to say that in terms of people (even in dating), my type is the artsy kind. People that live their own truth. People that aren’t afraid to express themselves, to speak their minds. People that have dreams. People that fight for something. People that want to share their truth with the world. People that keep it real, but who aren’t afraid of going crazy sometimes. Real, imperfect, flawed humans.

These are the men that inspire me. I hope you know their music. If not, I hope you enjoy this selection of wonderful voices and songs. And I hope they speak to you like they speak to me.

    Paolo Nutini

10974661_10152854734739565_3752910947405296862_o-2-copyI’ve been following this boy for the last 7 years at least. I remember I found him by chance, when I was looking for a song about Autumn, and I’ve been hooked since then!
I love his stage presence too. You can see from the way he sings that he actually feels those songs, and that in that moment, there’s nothing as important as singing his heart out. He gives us pieces of his hearth every time he goes on to that stage. He’s one of the next artists I will buy a concert ticket for.
My favourite song of his is Iron Sky’ at the moment. This one below is the best version of the song. Is live, and the vocals are simply breath-taking. Watch his stage presence too. You’ll understand what I say by ‘he feels a song’. Enjoy.
‘Candy’ is one gorgeous song.On my ‘Best -Songs -Ever -Playlist’. I listen to it on a bad day and the world seems a little brighter.

    Nakho Bear

NAHKO7I’ve only discovered this beautiful human few months ago, but since then my life is so much better.

What I admire most about Nahko is his realness. And his passion for causes. The way he lives his life, the fact that he practices yoga and that focuses so much on his soul. This guy should be an inspiration for everyone.

‘Aloha Ke Akuna’ is one stunning piece of art. This song will save your soul.

‘7 Feathers’ is a very special song for me. Whenever I feel like nothing, I listen to it and remember that we are all Something.

I’ve got to know this guy through the now-famous ‘Take me to Church’.

I’ve had that song on Repeat so many times! It made me curious obviously as to what else Hozier is all about.

I’m still discovering things about him,  but his music is nonetheless present on all my recent playlists.

My absolute favourite is ‘Cherry Wine’. And this LIVE version is gorgeous to listen and watch.

I’ve only found this one last week, but what a gem it is!

    The Weekend

This guys appeals to my dark side. His songs are liquid drugs for most of my moods.

He lifts me up high in the Sky and then bursts the House of Balloons.

His voice is pure sex-appeal to my ears.

My bad side purrs every time I listen to any of his songs. And yes, most of them are about sex, drugs and anything in between! But that voice… The ways he says it is everything.

This is my tune. When I’m in my zone, I just want to feel. Anything. Everything.

    Bon Iver

Ok, this is a band, but Justin Vernon is so good, that I feel one day I will write a boo only based on his music.

A brilliant song-writer. He tells stories through his songs.

The beats of this song are liquid gold. His voice is delightful and enticing.

So there you have it! My boy-crushes. The voices that inspire me. I hope you enjoyed this. If you have any good songs or artists you want to recommend, feel free to do so!

    Peace & Love, M
  • Summer vibes ~ May Playlist

“A little magic can take you a long way.” ~ Ronald Dahl

New month, good vibes and more hopes.
    Dreaming higher.
    Aiming higher.
    Being more gentle.
Slowing down and taking few deep breaths.
    Smiling at the sun.
    Complaining less.

I’m about to head on a new adventure, and these songs are part of my May playlist. I hope they inspire you to let yourself go and find your own way in this life.

When the lights are faded to black
Only stars are guiding me back
    I’ll keep running
    To the place I belong.”

And it echoes when I breathe
Until all you see is my ghost
    Empty vessel, crooked teeth
    Wish you could see..”

Such an oldie, but still an amazing song that was given a more breezy vibe.

Now I’m gonna tell my momma
    That I’m a traveller
    I’m gonna follow the sun

    5. Join the Riot – Us Against the Wall . This amazing Swedish band performed few nights ago in Hangzhou. They have a very cool indie sound and on top of that, the boys are really down to earth and so fun to hang out with. You should definitely listen to their songs.

    When it feels like
You’ve given it all you got but there’s no reason
Come on and give it all what you got
Cause for tonight, tonight it’s us against the wall.”

I will leave you with some food for thought from the greatest John Lennon. Learn how to play the game. Learn the rules, but make them work in your favour. Be a Rebel.

“There’s nothing you can do that can’t be done
Nothing you can sing that can’t be sung.
Nothing you can say but you can learn how to play the game.
    It’s easy.”

    Peace & Love,

  • Day 20: The feel good Playlist.

This playlist if my end-of-month playlist. Some songs to spice up those rainy mornings, when you’re waiting for your coffee to be ready, and you’re thinking of the day ahead.

But if you’re having a bad day, this songs should help too. Some are old, some are not so old. All of them amazing, nevertheless.

    1. Work Song – Hozier. I love this song! I had in on repeat for like two weeks at a time. It’s one of those songs that deserves more than one listen.

    2. Cheri Cheri Lady – Modern Talking. Going very old skool with this one. This is one of my mum’s favourites. I grew up with their music, and if you never listen to them, you should! It will take you back in time.

    3. Lean On – Major Lazer. The most recent song on my playlist – such a nice beat! It has a good spring vibe to it.

    4. Imagine – John Lennon. If this song doesn’t give you a good vibe, I don’t know what would. No need to tell you what an amazing tune this is.

    5. Hard times come again no more – Paolo Nutini. A cover by one of my favourite singers. I’ve been following his career for the last 6 years. Brilliant voice, even more brilliant soul.

    6. Redemption Song – Rihanna (Bob Marley cover). Another cover. Few years ago, when Haiti crisis was developing, Rihanna recorded this version for a fundraise. She brings a nice kick to the original.

7.Save Tonight – Eagle Cherry.  An amazing remix to this classic. You will love it. I mean, I did. Such a catchy song. Makes me think of summer love and late nights under the moonlight.

    8. I wish I was a punk rocker with flowers in my hair – Shandi Thom. This basically sums up my bigger wish ever. I’m kinda dreamer, kinda hopeless romantic. This song sums it up best.

I hope my tiny playlist make your day (or night) brighter.

Good soundtrack for a good life – that’s my ideal.

    Enjoy your weekend!

    Peace & Love,

  • Day 13: 3 songs to match my mood.

Because it’s Saturday, and because it’s officially Spring, I’m going to share three songs that I’ve had on repeat this week.

Music it’s a big part of my life and for me to find songs that I listen to when I write is a daily challenge.

Sometimes I listen to a  song until complete burn out. But I get in this mood and I start writing for few hours and before I notice, 5 hours have passed and I still got the same tune on repeat.

It’s not bad, I love doing it.

I love finding songs that help me think and make me reflect.

So, in no particular order, here it goes.

This song helps me relax and it’s got me thinking about this very hype and rebel kind of love. Image having this partner that is all about doing what you feel in the moment, listening to underground music and spending time talking about art and the mysteries of the universe.

I’m always looking for this for this kind of songs that put me into a trance, that when I put my headphones in,  the words start pouring.

I’m in love with this guy. He keeps it so real. And this song is a very special one for me. The first time I heard it, it spoke to me about faith, love, the circle of life and death. About finding oneself and not looking back. About acceptance and creating a whole person. Welcoming that Divine part of us into the world.

It makes me hopeful, hopeful that one day, i’ll look in the mirror and I’ll embrace and love all of myself.

This guys tells beautiful stories. And the story that this song tells me is one of love and a reminder that we don’t have all the time in the world.

But also that some people, are just not meant to be together, no matter how hard we try. Learn from experiences, don’t dull on the past.

    Time is short.

Enjoy your weekend. Take your time to do things that inspire you and people around you. Listen to good music. Write. Dance. Smile.

    Peace & Love,

  • February Inspiration: Medicine for the People

Today, because February it’s here, I will share with you some music for the Soul.

**Warning: this music will heal broken hearts and will make you feel more than a tiny bit.It will crack open our stone hearts and will remind you that you are Human, before anything.**

My musical crush lately has been a gorgeous soul that goes by the name of Nahko Bear  and hangs out (by that I mean produces beautiful pieces of music) with a band called Medicine for the People.

To put it in words, their words talks about feeding our Soul and tapping into our humanity – respecting one another and respecting Mother Earth.

I’ve only stumbled upon their songs (masterpieces) recently, but they’ve brought so much positive energy in my life, that I wanted to share it with the world!

The band has been around since 2008. They come from Portland, and they have like influences hip-hop, jazz, tribal, folk and anything soul inspired. Basically, you need to listen to their songs to get the vibe.

Spare few minutes of your busy schedule and just click play to at least one of this songs. It will be worth it.

This is the tune I got on repeat at the moment. It’s their latest single and it brings me so much inspiration to write, to BE the change. Plus, Nahko’s voice is sublime:

This one is their most known song. The piano version is simply gorgeous:

And if you have a bit more time and you decided that you LOVE them, here’s their performance at the Summer Arts Music Festival in 2014:

    Peace & Love,
